Nature's Surrender

Bright, burnt auburn leaves
fall from their throne to the ground.
Each leaf is a flag of its own,
representing nature's surrender.
The flags sway slowly to the beat
of a metronome to their grave piles.
The leaflets whisper wistful last words as they
wisp with the wind while longing for more time.
The frigid breeze migrates the aroma
of burnt firewood through the scalp of bald trees.
Trees that have lost their pride
as they do each year as winter approaches.
It is an unrequited love so many have for the season
as we watch winter's hand destroy the life that nature offers us.
As winter's chill overtakes nature's strength,
we admire the beauty that its death brings.
